Dental Assistant (RDA) Preparation
General Overview:
Dental Assistant Package provides 40 hours of lecture, lab and an optional 120 externship hours with a practicing dentist. The course includes 32 hours of CA Dental Board Approved Dental Radiation Safety and 8-Hour Infection Control Certification Courses.
Dental Assistant (RDA) Preparation package provides 30 hours of lecture, lab and an optional 130 externship hours with a practicing dentist. The course includes 12 hour CA Dental Board Approved Coronal Polishing, 16 hour Pit and Fissure Sealant and 2 hour CA Practice Act Courses.
Please review individual course description and pre-requisites.
Students may also take individual stand alone courses. When registering for individual courses, the optional in-office externship with a practicing dentist will not be available. Only the Dental Assistant and Dental Assistant (RDA) Preparation courses offer the in office training with live patients. The students must successfully complete the courses before being allowed to participate in the externship.
COURSE FEE: $800
This is an 8 hour course required by the CA Dental Board for all dental auxiliaries: dental assistants and registered dental assistants.
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to understand: general dental terminology, infection control asepsis protocols and procedures, emergency procedures and safety protocols, standard operating procedures guide - hand-washing, pre-sterilization, sterilization, surface disinfection, principles and protocols for sharps management, laboratory area and waterline maintenance.
There are written and clinical examinations.
Certification is awarded after successfully passing clinical and written examinations.
8 HOUR COURSE
8 CE Units
COURSE FEE: $4,100
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand: general dental terminology, tooth anatomy and dental numbering system, infection control asepsis protocols and procedures, emergency procedures and safety protocols, standard operating procedures guide, vocabulary terms and definitions in radiology, principles and techniques of radiation and radiation safety, manual and automatic processing of film, clinical techniques in radiation safety, clinical techniques of full mouth radiographs on a manikin and live patients, common film placement and exposure errors, common film processing errors, and radiograph mounting techniques.
32 HOUR COURSE
32 CE Units
COURSE FEE: $500
This course meets the standards of the Dental Board of California (DBC) for a comprehensive review of the California Dental Practice Act (CDPA).
All licensed dental professionals are mandated by the California Code of Regulation [Business & Professions Code ("B&P") 1600] to receive instruction before each license renewal period.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: understand the role of the dental board of California, know the scope of practice for auxiliaries: direct and indirect supervision, understand requirements of licensure and license renewal, describe enforcement ability of the dental board, know the basics of laws about prescription medications, understand various diversion programs, identify mandated reporters of abuse, violence and neglect, discuss basic ethics related to dental practice and the law, use of Botox and dermal fillers, failure to pay taxes regulations.
2 Hour Course
2 CE Units
Certification is awarded after successfully passing a written examination.
COURSE FEE: $1500
Prerequisites: Each student must possess the necessary requirements for application for RDA licensure or currently possess an RDA license.
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to understand: general dental terminology, tooth anatomy, infection control asepsis protocols and procedures, emergency procedures and safety protocols, standard operating procedures guide, terms and definitions pertaining to plaque, caries, intrinsic and extrinsic stains, oral cavity, gingivitis, periodontitis, basic charting, coronal polishing dental materials and instrumentation, coronal polishing techniques and risk factors, frictional heat, fluoride application and risk factors.
12 HOUR COURSE
12 CE Units
There are written and clinical examinations.
Certification is awarded after successfully passing clinical and written examinations.
Requires 4 live patients. The student is responsible to provide the human subjects for the examination to successfully complete this certification course
COURSE FEE: $1800
Prerequisites: Each student must possess the necessary requirements for application for RDA licensure or currently possess an RDA license. Must have Coronal Polishing Certificate.
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to understand: general dental terminology, tooth anatomy, infection control asepsis protocols and procedures, emergency procedures and safety protocols, standard operating procedures guide, terms and definitions pertaining to pit and fissure sealants, advantage and disadvantages of pit and fissure sealants, indication for placement of pit and fissure sealants compared to PRR, composite and amalgam restorations, clinical techniques for placement of pit and fissure sealants on stone models and live patients.
16 HOUR COURSE

There are written and clinical examinations.
Certification is awarded after successfully passing clinical and written examinations.
Requires 4 live patients. The student is responsible to provide the human subjects for the examination to successfully complete this certification course.
